ActivSpace Ballard is a multi-tenant creative workspace located at 700 NW 42nd Street in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, in the area now commonly known as Frelard. Opened in 1999, it is one of ActivSpace’s longest-standing communities and the sister building to the North Seattle location. The property was developed on former Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad land and hosted the very first ActivSpace Open Studio event, which drew more than 30 participants.

Spaces specialize in the 100–400 SF range across four tiers. “The Spark” ($210–$385/month) provides entry-level private studios with a door and window. “The Maker” ($345–$415/month) offers mid-size spaces with tall ceilings for multi-discipline creative work. “The Launch” ($515–$830/month) delivers larger spaces for collaborative or full-scale projects. “The Garage” ($440–$1,340/month) features roll-up and/or man doors with concrete floors, designed for vehicle-accessible work including fabrication, distribution, staging, and storage of large equipment. The Garage tier at Ballard carries the highest ceiling price of any Seattle ActivSpace location.

All units include basic utilities, individual key access, large windows, and tall ceilings. Units are wired for landline and internet. Common areas include a stretch elevator, community boards, permitted parking, and bike racks. Leases are month-to-month with storage spaces, mailboxes, and add-on user options available.

The property sits near the Burke-Gilman Trail in one of Seattle’s most active neighborhoods for dining, retail, breweries, and creative businesses. Ballard’s industrial waterfront heritage and walkable corridors make it a natural fit for the maker and entrepreneur community.
