The Loading Dock was founded in May 2016 by Philip Freeman, CEO of Murphy’s Naturals, who transformed his own workspace challenges into an opportunity to create a flexible shared workspace community for impact-minded entrepreneurs in the Triangle. After outgrowing multiple spaces while scaling Murphy’s Naturals from a garage startup to a thriving business, Freeman established The Loading Dock at Dock 1053, a historic 20,000 square foot facility originally built in 1955 as an A&P distribution center. Today, The Loading Dock offers coworking, office suites, cowarehousing, and event space designed to help companies grow without the constraints of long-term leases and inflexible spaces. The community continues to honor the property’s legacy of innovation, bringing together diverse companies and organizations committed to creating lasting impact in the region.

The Loading Dock’s original location, Dock 1053, is a coworking, coworkarehousing, and shared workspace designed for the creative, freelancer, entrepreneur, and remote worker. We have 3 coworking locations in the Triangle.
This campus is strategically located just north of Downtown, near Raleigh’s Five Points and Midtown districts. Available on campus: coworking, private offices, conference rooms, event space, as well as cowarehousing options.
Cowarehousing is shared warehouse space designed for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and product-based companies that need more room than a garage but less commitment than a traditional industrial lease.
Members get their own private warehouse unit (ranging from 100 to 2,500+ square feet) along with shared access to amenities like loading docks, pallet jacks, freight receiving, business mailboxes, meeting rooms, coworking space, and 24/7 secure access. Pricing is all-inclusive, and lease terms are flexible (6 to 12 months), so businesses can scale up or down as they grow.
It’s a practical solution for product storage, shipping and receiving, kitting and fulfillment work, e-commerce operations, and any small business that needs warehouse space without the overhead and rigidity of a traditional commercial lease.
